I had a doctor appointment this week. I injured my toe over a year ago, and I still have pain in the toe and foot. Scans hadn’t showed anything permanent injured, and supposedly any damage was to tissues or ligaments that just take months to heal. I wanted a followup to assess whether my (slow) healing is still what the doctor expects.

I pulled out my Judith Bärtschi Lenormand deck to ask: What will the outcome of my doctor appointment be?

Cross – Mice – Child – Moon – House (Sorry for the poor lighting!)

Reading in a line, this flows from left to right, and the cards go from negative to more positive. Read “poetically,” with a story based purely on the thing pictured on each card: the mice eat at the base of the cross. The child plays in the moonlight until it’s time to go home.

As anyone who’s been reading my blog knows, I’ve been searching for a home to buy, and doing readings related to the hunt for a house. Not all of them have been posted here.

I did finally fall in love with a house. The only downside I could see was its location on a busier street. I did some readings regarding this house and its suitability, and none of them were ever really positive. Cross had shown up to describe this house, even when next to Heart, making me think of “the burden of ownership.”

Garden had popped up a couple of times, and the best I could figure was to relate it to the busy location. The reality turned out to be quite different. The house is settling too much, indicating a likely problem with the foundation. In retrospect, Garden seems a good representative of the foundation itself. In this light, here are two card combinations that came up.

Garden + Mice: something “eating away” at, or eroding, the foundation.

Garden + Bear: the foundation needs to be strengthened; needs a lot of work.

Sometimes readings do make more sense after the fact, and this is one of those cases. The upside of this is that particular pairings will have more meaning for the reader in future. I’ve certainly expanded my repertoire for the Garden card!

I had some some thinking recently on how I would work out combinations that involved a few of the negative cards in the Lenormand deck. Here is how I would read these pairs.

Cross + Anchor: Work is increasing and becoming a burden. Overworked.

Mountain + Coffin: Ending of obstacles. But not necessarily in a good way. Could indicate giving up.

Fox + Fish: Underhanded money deal; bad money (counterfeit).

Cross + Mountain: Obstacles ahead are so large as to be insurmountable; one would need to be a “superman” to overcome them.

Mountain + Cross: Obstacles are one’s burden to bear.

Cross + Fox: Major fraud or deception going on. Someone is screwing the subject over.

Fox + Cross: Some relatively minor deception is going on, but may be almost over with.

Cross + Fish: Money is a great burden. It would seem that the subject has more money, but because of the Cross that’s not a good thing.

Fish + Cross: Diminished cashflow.

Fish + Coffin: Going broke.

Coffin + Fish: Loss of money through ill health, or stress about money problems. If Coffin makes this combo negative, then the money has a negative aspect. Ill health and monetary loss would suggest health-related unemployment to me, even though Fish is not work in this case. Stress seems likely too.

Coming up with practice pairs is a helpful way to become acquainted with combining Lenormand cards. Regardless of which tradition one follows, combination is essential to reading these cards.
